Money 20/20 EU Recap Blog - Day 3

Money 20/20 2023 in Amsterdam is officially a wrap! The Fenergo team have spent the last three days meeting old friends and new at one of Europe’s largest gatherings of the financial services industry.

On Day 3, we held a live demo jam at the stand as well as plenty of one-to-one demos for attendees (you can book a bespoke one here), to showcase our leading Client Lifecycle Management solutions – particularly the KYC and Transaction Compliance solution we launched on Day 2 of Money 20/20.

Thanks to everyone who came by our stand during the event – it was truly an exciting few days and we loved meeting our industry colleagues, the financial and tech sectors of Europe form a community we’re proud to be part of.

Fenergo Represented Ireland’s Fintech Community at Money 20/20 with Enterprise Ireland

During the event, we were also thrilled to welcome Ireland’s Minister of state at the Department of Finance, Dr. Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, at Fenergo’s booth.

We were also proud to see Joe Dunphy, our Global Head of M&A and Corporate Development, representing Fenergo at a roundtable discussion on the future of regulation within the financial services industry and the development of technology solutions. The roundtable was hosted by Enterprise Ireland, the Irish government’s trade and innovation agency, and featured four of Ireland’s most cutting edge RegTech companies and a panel of Dutch regulatory executives.

The discussion focused on key developments in both the Irish and Dutch Financial Services ecosystem centered around regulation, with a key focus on the innovations needed to accelerate the industry. Fenergo and the other attending Irish companies discussed how they are supporting the financial services ecosystem in a session moderated by Jeroen Broekema, the founder of the Leaders in Finance Podcast.

Now Recording: The Fenergo FinTalks Podcast at Money 20/20 Europe

Our Content Team didn’t rest on the third day at Money 20/20 – we held interviews with some of the best and brightest experts in attendance, to be released soon on the Fenergo FinTalks podcast.

Over a coffee at the beginning of the day, we spoke with Banking Circle’s Global Head of AML, Patrick Green, about the future of anti-money laundering (AML) regulation, the impact of an EU-wide AML regulator, the power of compliance officers coming together to share insights, and how data-sharing could make a real difference in the fight against financial crime.

We then spoke with Deborah Young, CEO and Founder of The RegTech Association. The RegTech Association was born in Australia but is steadily becoming a force to be reckoned with globally, with Deborah and her team being utterly determined to accelerate RegTech adoption and bring the anti-financial crime community closer than ever.

Next, we spoke to Dan McCrum, who spoke to us about his career reporting on bad actors in the financial services industry, specifically his work and the string of events that led to taking down the now infamous German payments giant: Wirecard. He spoke to the kind of red flags that regulators and investors alike breezed past when it came to Wirecard, and what it felt like to be on the receiving end of the joint wrath of BaFin, Wirecard, and their supporters.

Finally, we got in some time with Lesley Li, the CEO and co-founder of U Impact - a FinTech startup with the mission to make impact investing the new normal. Lesley explained to us what impact investing is, what made her pivot in her career to found U Impact, whether or not ESG will save the world and why sustainability is vital to every fintech.
